School Counsellors: Ms E Harman and Ms J Noakes
Sydney Boys High School provides counselling to students and their families on three and a half days per week. The counselling service provides assistance to students on academic, personal and social matters. Students may self refer or be referred by teachers or parents who have some concerns regarding the student's adjustment within the school setting. The counsellors work closely with the Year Adviser from Years 7 12 and are involved in a number of activities which assist students with the transition to Year 7. The counsellors are also able to provide students with skills in the areas of study, stress management, conflict resolution, mediation, motivation and relaxation.
School Learning Support
School Learning Support Officer: Ms C RodakisThe School Learning Support Officer, under the supervision and direction of the Head Teacher wellbeing, assists in the care and management of students. Generally, their role includes assisting teachers in school to implement individual education programs such as individual leaning support plans. They help students to be more confident and independent in their learning.
Anti-Racism and Anti-Discrimination
The Anti-Discrimination Officer: Ms H Stephens
Sydney Boys High School has procedures for dealing with complaints about discrimination against students based on race, sex, marital status, disability (including HIV), age and transgender or homosexuality. These procedures complement the existing Anti-racism Policy and related grievance procedures. The anti-discrimination officer is the first point of contact for any related problems.
The Anti-Racism Contact Officer: Ms H Stephens
Anti-racism contact officer is to help parents, students or staff experiencing problems with racism and to provide interested parents with copies of the relevant Department policies on this issue. The anti-racism contact officer will listen to the problem and, with the relevant executive, find ways to resolve it as quickly as possible.

The Aboriginal Contact Officer promotes Aboriginal education. They assist Aboriginal students to achieve to their best potential.
Peer Support and Peer Mediation
Peer Support Coordinator: Mr D Smith
An integral part of the welfare structure is the Peer Support Program. The overall aim is to develop in students the understanding, attitudes and skills needed to live a healthy and safe lifestyle. It is designed to facilitate a smooth transition from primary to secondary school, to build new relationships and to provide a thorough orientation to Sydney High. Two Year 10 students work with five Year 7 students once a week on structured activities throughout Term 1. Activities allow students to practise effective strategies for: communication and listening, relationship building, decision making, problem solving, assertive behaviour, empathy with others and conflict resolution.
The Peer Mediation Program aims to reduce incidences of bullying by providing a school environment that is positive, caring, safe and friendly. Peer Mediation teaches students to resolve low-level conflicts using their peers as mediators. Mediation opens up communication channels allowing the disagreeing students to discuss their problems and come to a resolution with the guidance of the mediators.

High Resolves programs provide students in Years 7-10 with the motivation, skills and confidence they need to begin to tackle the many complex challenges they face, both in their lives today and as the leaders of tomorrow. The High Resolves Program focuses specifically on global citizenship and leadership development with its fundamental principle, Our World, Our Choice.
