The Allan May Weights Room
Will Weights Training Stunt Growth?
Failing to Prepare is Preparing to Fail

In 2005 the Weights Room underwent a transformation to become a fully functioning Strength & Conditioning facility, which caters for not only the Boys who train to improve their Physiques, but also those boys who are striving to improve their sporting performance.

The Alan May Weights Room at Sydney Boys High School

The facility is run by former Sydney Roosters & South Sydney Rabbitohs 1st Grade Rugby League Player, Jason Tassell. Jason is an A.S.C.A level 2 Strength & Conditioning Coach, a level 1 Weightlifting/Sports power coach, a registered Certificate 4 Personal Trainer with the Australian Fitness Council, and holds a level 1 Boxing/Muay Thai Kickboxing Trainer’s Certification. He has coached Rugby League at State Level and been involved in the training of many professional teams and athletes of all ages. Having started strength training at 11 years of age and competing in junior Power-lifting/Weightlifting and Bodybuilding before becoming a professional Rugby League Player, Jason has obtained through practical means extensive experience in the area of Strength & Conditioning.

All boys who attend the weights room are given a formalised Strength Program to suit their individual needs and address any weaknesses or imbalances that they may have. A Strength Coach is always on hand to monitor progress and correct any incorrect lifting techniques.

All parents are encouraged to visit the weights room at any time for an update on their child’s progress from Jason or any of the other strength coaches that may be on duty.

Will Weights Training stunt my/my son's Growth?
This is the biggest myth around but it is still asked daily by parents if doing weights will stunt their childs growth. For more information on the subject, you can view an article on the subject by Fitness Director, Jason Tassell.
