The school is led by the senior executive team, comprising the Principal, Dr Kim Jaggar, and Deputy Principals Ms Rachel Powell and Mr Robert Dowdell. The executive staff of nine Head Teachers and the twelve School Administration Officers led by Senior Administrative Manager Ms Sharon Kearns, support the senior executive. The school has three main offices - in the Main Building, in the Ken Andrews Library and in McDonald Wing. Finance, purchasing, enrolment and general inquiries are handled in the main building. Secretarial and network services are the responsibility of the McDonald Wing office.
Parents & Citizens Association
The Parents & Citizens Association of Sydney Boys High has been working continuously since 1925 to provide facilities and equipment for the school. It provides valuable assistance for organisers of school sporting activities and special events. The P & C supports school functions which bring parents, staff and students into closer cooperation. Sub-committees of the P & C operate the School Canteen, assist in the administration of particular sports and maintain the school environment. The P & C has representatives on the School Council. It has members on the board of the Sydney Boys High Foundation Inc.
Sydney Boys High School Council
The Sydney Boys High School Council was established in June, 1995 to replace the Sydney High School Council which had operated since 1951. The Council involves itself in the planning and governance of the school by discussing and ratifying broad school policies. It advises on the priorities, needs, welfare and operation of an academically selective school that is also a member of the Athletic Association of the Great Public Schools. The Council has an important coordinating role for activities conducted by the P & C, the Old Boys Union, the Sydney High School Foundation and other bodies within the School Family.
The Sydney High School Foundation Inc
The Foundation was incorporated in 1986 and acquired the School Council assets. It manages the Outterside Centre at Abbotsford and the Fairland Pavilion at the McKay playing fields in Centennial Park. It coordinates activities in respect of asset acquisition and management on behalf of the P & C Association and the Old Boys Union which have been in partnership since 1925. The Foundation raises money for school projects in partnership with the P & C and receives donations and bequests on behalf of the school. It is the corporate arm of the school preserving, developing and maintaining school facilities and resources.
The Sydney High School Old Boys Union
The Sydney High School Old Boys Union was first established in 1892, becoming a company in 1967 and being incorporated in September, 1993. The OBU promotes and fosters the interests of the school by strengthening its heritage and traditions, recording its history and enhancing its reputation. It publishes the High Bulletin. The OBU aims to encourage friendship and goodwill among members of the Union and endeavours to preserve their interest in the school through scholarships, sporting and social activities. The OBU works in partnership with the P & C to promote events and competitions to raise funds on behalf of the school.
The High Club Ltd
The High Club Limited was incorporated in May, 1957 as a club for Old Boys, teachers and former teachers at Sydney Boys High School. Over the years it has acquired premises and operated as a licensed club, but now it functions as a social club based at the Rose Bay RSL club. The High Club is an important source of funds for the school. It makes loans to the Foundation to help with building or refurbishment projects. It donates money to the school for specific purposes. It provides social gatherings for staff and Old Boys to promote mutual help and friendship.
Gardening and Grounds
The School Grounds Committee is improving the school's environs . We have taken professional advice in establishing priorities and in drawing up a master plan for school improvements. The gardens of the Main Quadrangle are thriving. Re-turfing, enriching the garden beds with compost, planting with Hydrangeas and Acanthus as well as having the Camellias professionally pruned have transformed the space. The fountain playing and the occasional sound of the old school bell add a pleasant ambience. A watering system linked to our new bore is a major asset. Littoral gardens around the tennis court and its environs have been established.
Year Parents Group
Parents of boys in Years 7 and 8 have formed groups to enhance communication between the school and its community and to discuss matters of mutual interest and concern. The groups meet at school and direct their concerns, questions, comments and recommendations to their respective Year Advisers and the Principal. Many boys who come to High are the only ones from their primary school accepted for enrolment. It is important for the social adjustment of year 7 boys that they are able to make friends and join in activities in their first term at High. The Year Parents Groups help this process.
State secondary schools have an obligation to engage in a cycle of self-evaluation. Evaluations of key school programs and important educational practices are reported to our school community each year. The Self-Evaluation Committee plays an important role in this process. The functions of the Self Evaluation Committee are: to critique the Annual Report, to advise on the implementation of the Management Plan, to evaluate certain school policies, to evaluate various data gathered internally and externally and to assist with the preparation of the Annual School Report. Materials and data are made available to members of the Committee to assist them in their work.
