The KJ Andrews Library has served Sydney High for over forty years. It is simply too small and cramped to cope with the modern demands of a school library as a place of learning, study as well as casual reading and a centre of computing facilities for student use.
Architects Simon Chan & Associates were engaged to present a proposal for the new library. It was exhibited in the Main Foyer of the school in late 2004. Chan produced another library proposal in mid-2006. This proposal is currently exhibited outside the KJ Andrews Library.
The 2006 Chan proposal involves the joining of the Killip Wing and Charles McDonald Building at the school's Anzac Parade boundary with a new library and performing arts space building. The structure is two levels high and would be built around and over a driveway access to the current quadrangle.
Our school is now commencing a Capital Works Campaign to fundraise for this building. We invite your participation in this project in the form of a tax deductible donation. Please see our appeal letter and donation form just under the plans.
Message from the Principal
Dear Friend and Supporter of Sydney Boys High School.
Sydney Boys High School depends upon its community of parents, Old Boys and supporters to further the School's ethos of pursuing all-round excellence.
October 2008 will mark the 125th Anniversary of our School.
Our Major Project to commemorate this significant milestone in our School's History will be the construction of a much-needed New Library and Performing Arts Space.
A new Library and Performing Arts Space will cost several million dollars.
Donations to this project are vital for it to be completed within a realistic time frame.
You are invited to participate directly in the School's future by contributing to the 125th Anniversary Project 2008 - The New Library and Performing Arts Space.
All contributions to the project are fully tax deductible.
High Spirit has made visions become reality at important turning points in our history. The 125th Anniversary Project in October 2008 is another opportunity for that spirit of self-help and cooperation to rise again.
Thank you for helping to make a difference
Dr Kim Jaggar
