Sydney Boys High School offers opportunities for its students that are not available to any other public school student in the State. The success of our boys and the outstanding reputation of the School from which we all benefit, is a result of the well rounded education our boys receive, including rigorous sporting competition, leadership training and community service, academic competitions, debating and public speaking, creative and performing arts opportunities – all while pursuing academic excellence.

The facilities our boys currently enjoy, at a fraction of the cost of a private school, were made possible not only by government funding but through significant generous donations by past generations of parents and students. Sydney Boys High has only been able to achieve what it has in the course of its 129 year history because parents, old boys and other members of the High family have joined together to build the future of the School.

The Centenary Building Fund is used to maintain and improve existing facilities within the School beyond what the government can provide. Each family is asked to contribute to the Centenary Building Fund at the start of the academic year as part of their annual fees statement. Thank you to those parents who have generously made this essential contribution. The Sydney Boys High School Building Fund is for new facilities and receives donations from parents and old boys throughout the year.

Past projects funded by the generosity of the High community include: purchase of a new demountable classroom ($78,000); the Senior Study Centre ($650,000); stage two of the Outterside Sporting and Educational Centre ($600,000); Canteen refurbishment ($150,000); new Senior Library ($100,000); the Cutler Gates ($120,000); new tennis courts ($230,000); cricket nets ($120,000); extra classrooms ($50,000); installing cabling, computer and internet infrastructure ($35,000); building storage capacity ($25,000); remodelling staffrooms ($12,000); and most recently, the Covered Outdoor Learning Area ($120,000) and establishment of fencing and athletics facilities ($50,000).

The next targeted project for SBHS Building Fund is the a new Multipurpose Centre, which is urgently needed to expand and upgrade our teaching, examination, performing arts and debating facilities and free up much needed classrooms in the existing buildings. This is a major capital works commitment that includes the design and construction of a new two level building named The Governors Centre for Excellence in Education, a joint project of Sydney Boys High School and Sydney Girls High School. The building will front Cleveland Street, located between the two schools on the site of the Sydney Girls High School tennis court.

To achieve this target as soon as we can and get this project underway, we are asking you to contribute to Sydney Boys High School Building Fund within the next two months in two ways:

  • by regular monthly credit card donations that are tax deductible, and/or
  • by once-off donation, also tax deductible.

Forms are available on this website for each contribution method. If you have any queries, please telephone the Principal.

With widespread parent support across each Year group, we can achieve our fund raising goal and get this project underway. For example, if every one of our current 1,000 families contributes $50.00 each month, we would raise $600,000 per year. Obviously, the higher the contributions the faster we will reach our fundraising target and construction can begin.
